Chipinge granny (74) struck by lightning

CHIPINGE-Agness Gapara (74) of Mwandifura Village under Chief Ngungunyani in Chipinge was struck by lightning and died on the spot at her homestead.

Gapara was at her homestead with her 12 year old granddaughter in the kitchen hut when it started raining and she decided to go to the bedroom which is 10m away.

As she was walking to the bedroom passing through a washing line, lightning stuck killing her on the spot.

The lightning also cut into pieces the two washing line supporting poles.

Manicaland province police acting spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka told The Midweek Watch that the incident happened last Thursday (18/12/25) at around 2pm.

Chinyoka said the granddaughter, upon realizing what had happened went on to inform Givemore Sigauke (36) who stays 100m away.

Sigauke who is the son of the deceased reported the matter to Chipinge Urban police who took the body to hospital for postmortem.

Chinyoka said members of the public should be extra careful during the rainy season and avoid being near tall objects and construction equipment such as scaffolding, ladders, and cranes, water, wiring, plumbing, and fencing.
