Liu Haifeng, 51, and Wang Jun, 21, were also accused of using explosives and prospecting for gold without a license.

The two appeared before Gweru Provincial Magistrate Beaulity Dube on Saturday.

Liu was charged with attempted murder, using explosives, and prospecting for gold without a license.

Wang, who was remanded to the hospital under guard, was accused of contravening the Firearms Act, using explosives, and prospecting for gold without valid documents.

The state alleges that on January 21, 2025 at around 4pm, Liu, who is the farm manager at Ming Chang Sino-Mining Investment in Lower Gweru, fired three shots towards Kholwani Dube after the two clashed.

The court heard that Liu had assigned Dube a task, which he refused to execute, and was then served with a suspension letter.

This prompted an altercation as the complainant refused to leave without his salary.

During the incident, the court heard that Wang, who is the stores man, arrived at the scene.

“During the process to subdue the complainant, he joined in the fight whilst the complainant was resisting. Liu dropped his pistol, and Wang picked it up from the ground and pointed it towards the head of Dube,” reads the state documents.

Wang then pressed Dube’s head to the ground and tied his hands with a wire.

The two Chinese nationals were represented by Task Vhiki of Macharaga Law Chambers.
