HARARE: The Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe has implored its nationals to adhere to Zimbabwean laws and regulations when conducting their business operations.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Chinese Embassy said compliance with Zimbabwean laws is not negotiable for all operations.
“Compliance with Zimbabwean laws and regulations is the non-negotiable foundation of all operations. All disputes must be resolved through proper legal channels. Proactively seek advice and assistance from qualified legal counsel,” reads the statement.
The embassy also told Chinese nationals in Zimbabwe to desist from possessing firearms illegally and comply with regulations when storing and using authorised firearms.
“The illegal possession of firearms is strictly prohibited. The storage and use of any legally authorised firearms must be managed with the highest level of control and in full compliance with relevant regulations,” further reads the statement.
The Chinese investors in Zimbabwe were encouraged to plough back to communities where they conduct their business operations.
“Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives are strongly encouraged as visible expressions of goodwill. Such proactive efforts foster mutual trust, strengthen community relations and affirm a shared commitment to Zimbabwe’s broader economic development and social progress.”
The Embassy further told its citizens to register with the former for the record and keep the Embassy aware of the project sites and contact details.
There was an outcry over Chinese nationals’ penchant for abuse of workers and wanton disregard of environmental regulations in Zimbabwe.
This follows an incident a Chinese national who allegedly shot dead a Zimbabwean worker at a gold mine in Makosa, Mutoko last week, an incident that drew wide condemnation from Zimbabweans.
