Chikato Primary takes lead in inclusive education

MASVINGO- Established in 1962, Chikato Primary School has become a notable example in the education sector for its unwavering commitment to inclusive education and community-centric development.

In a recent interview with The Midweek Watch, the school head, Stanley Zhonje, elaborated on the institution’s accomplishments amidst prevailing challenges.

“We have encountered various obstacles, but with robust support from parents and the community, we have made substantial progress in delivering quality education to all students,” stated Zhonje.

Significantly, the school has acquired its first bus, symbolising parental engagement and the collective commitment to enhancing educational access. The administration has implemented flexible payment plans for parents to avoid defaulting, thus ensuring that no child is excluded due to fee-related issues.

In terms of infrastructure, strategic renovations are in progress, which include a comprehensive five-year painting cycle and the development of a new classroom block. Additionally, the Early Childhood Development (ECD) A and B units are being expanded to meet the increasing enrollment and educational demands.

Chikato Primary School is a paragon of inclusivity, featuring a dedicated team of educators trained to accommodate learners with special needs, particularly those with physical disabilities. This initiative aligns with contemporary best practices in special education.

In the realm of athletics, Chikato Primary School is active in local associations, where students have demonstrated notable performance, securing trophies in basketball and producing national champions in tennis.

Furthermore, the school has prioritised academic excellence through its recent installation of a solar power system, ensuring a reliable energy supply for educational activities and fostering a conducive learning environment and also acquired Starlink as its service provider for fast connectivity.
