CHIREDZI-The Chiredzi Town Council’s decision on the biggest watering hall in the country, iconic Chigarapasi Beer Hall lease agreement is yet to be finalised several months after announcing the winner of the tender.
The highly anticipated agreement was awarded to EVS Inc Pvt Ltd which will pay $4,000 per month after the previous operator’s lease expired on 30 September 2024.
Interestingly EVS has already begun operating the beer hall without a formal lease agreement.

According to the current arrangement EVS is allowed to replace existing materials but is not permitted to renovate the premises. Additionally they are not allowed to cut or prune the trees on the property or utilize the storage and cold rooms.
EVS which is run by Enock Shava expressed enthusiasm for the potential of the beer hall stating that with full renovation authority they would transform the place into a wonderful venue and restore its old glory days.
“I am really excited about the potential to renovate this beer hall and bring it up to high standard. I have already shared my detailed plans with the Council, but unfortunately the lease agreement is taking longer than expected to be finalized which is holding up the works,” said Shava.
He also told The Midweek Watch that their intention is to retain the Chigarapasi beer hall name as a way a way preserving the place’s legacy however, the final decision rests with the policymakers.
The council has promised to revisit the lease agreement and work towards a mutually beneficial arrangement that considers the interests of all stakeholders including the community as soon as possible.
