BIKITA-Chief Marozva has urged youths to shun drug and substance abuse and focus their energy on developing their talents if they are to play a positive role in promoting socio-economic development in the country.

Chief Marozva born Mutindi Mutindi made the call over the weekend at Lithium Stadium at Bikita Minerals, where hundreds of villagers, including youths had converged for a sport tournament sponsored by the lithium miner. He decried the high number of youths who had turned to crime, saying the country needed focused youths with a vision to develop their communities.
“As a community, this tournament is very important for us as youths. We come together, play and share experiences through these tournaments. We can even start small projects that can sustain us so that we remain occupied and shun the abuse of drugs and substances.
“This event is of paramount importance because it brings us together as a community. It teaches us the value of health lifestyles and allows me to talk to our youths about upholding our cultural norms and values while denouncing drugs and substance abuse,” he said.
Speaking at the same event, Bikita Minerals Mine Manager Experience Kagodi said the tournament also provides an opportunity for the mining company to strengthen its relations with community members.
“As Bikita Minerals, we are proud to have sponsored this event. We have sponsored this tournament for more than 10 years because it is important for us. It connects us with members of the community and its part of our corporate social responsibility initiatives,” he said.
Participating teams received prizes with Chivanga Football Club lifting the football trophy, while Bikita Rulers were crowned netball champions.
