MILLICENT HUNGWE
MASVINGO RURAL-Chief Mapanzure has called for peace and calm as investigations continue into the brutal killing of Liliosa Gwenhamo (34), who was allegedly murdered by her husband Morgen Gwazira (33) at Machingambi Village under Chief Mugabe.
Gwenhamo, from Chief Mapanzure’s area, was married to Morgen and were blessed with four children.
The tragic event occurred when Gwazira allegedly attacked Liliosa with an axe, fatally injuring her before setting her body on fire using petrol, battery acid, and firewood.
In a statement, Chief Mapanzure acknowledged the tragedy and urged the community to remain calm and let the law take its course.
“We share a border with Chief Mugabe, the matter is now in the hands of the police, and we are allowing them to do their work and guide us on the next peaceful steps,” he said.
“This is a painful and shocking incident, but we must handle it in a peaceful and respectful way.
“The father has already acknowledged what happened, and we await the proper cultural and legal processes.”
Efforts to get a comment from Chief Mugabe were unsuccessful, as he stated he was not ready to speak to the media on the matter.
Meanwhile, the couple’s four children — all minors, including a Grade 7, grade 5, Grade 2 learner and 3 years old, are now in the custody of their grandmother as the family awaits Liliosa’s burial.
The children are still traumatized and urgently in need of food, clothes, school fees, shelter, and professional counseling.
Rumours are circulating that the suspect, Morgen was arrested today, but police had not confirmed the matter to The Midweek Watch as they were unavailable for comment at night.
