GWERU- The Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Daniel Garwe has installed Abedinico Tavengwa as the new Chief Chiwundura following his appointment by President Mnangagwa last year.

Speaking during the installation ceremony held at Gunde High School in Gweru district, Minister Garwe emphasized the importance of traditional leaders in community governance and development.
He highlighted that traditional leaders play a vital role in ensuring council decisions, urging local authorities to allow chiefs to actively participate in council meetings saying that their attendence is crucial for safeguarding community well-being.
“Traditional leaders are custodians of the society. I urge local authorities to allow chiefs to actively participate in council meetings. Traditional leaders play a vital role in driving progress and should work closely with government officials to achieve development goals,” he said.
Garwe further stressed that traditional leaders are responsible for overseeing levy and tax collection, collaborating on local projects, and coordinating drought and famine relief efforts.
He advised Chief Chiwundura to treat everyone fairly and work towards unity and development in his area of jurisdiction.
Tavengwa becomes the fifth substantive holder of the title. As part of his benefits, the newly installed chief received a vehicle from government.
