MASVINGO–The recently resuscitated Bere Chieftainship has made history in the country’s traditional leadership by installing a Headwoman/Sadunhu in the Mudyahoto area.
Happymore Mudyahoto (64) a liberation war veteran will become one of the few women to be installed as a traditional leader in the country and the first one in Chief Bere’s area where her jurisdiction will cover the farming and gold mining areas of Chidzikwe and Summerton.
Chief Bere was resuscitated in 2019 after 125 years when it was disbanded by the colonial regime for resisting the white men’s oppressive government.
Happymore is going to be installed as Headwoman Mudyahoto tomorrow (20/05/23) by Chief Bere at Mudyahoto homestead near Chidzikwe Clinic.

Chief Bere’s spokesperson Adnos Chikomo told The Midweek Watch that they are holding the ceremony tomorrow and there will be chiefs, headmen, village heads, government officials and all stakeholders from all walks of life.
“We are holding the ceremony at Mudyahoto’s homestead near Chidzikwe Clinic and we are expecting the event to be graced by chiefs, headmen, village heads, government officials, police and stakeholders from all walks of life,” said Chikomo.
He went on to say that Mudyahoto is being honoured for her role in the resuscitation of Bere Chieftainship.
Chikomo als said that her area must not remain as a resettlement but must quickly conform to traditional community so as to hold ceremonies like Mukwerera, Chisi among other traditional activities.
Chikomo added that there are 19 more women who have assumed traditional leadership role like Village heads and special aides who sit in the Chiefs Council of elders and advisors under their chieftainship, a rare feat in the country.
