MASVINGO-Award winning boxer Charles Manyuchi has launched a community boxing program called Wafa Wafa in Masvingo Province aimed at fighting drug and substance abuse among youths through sport, discipline and opportunity.

The initiative, a developmental arm of the Charles Manyuchi Boxing Academy holds free training sessions and matches every Saturday and Sunday from at an open space opposite Red Cross Mucheke Rank.
The open setting helps young boxers get used to performing in front of crowds while promoting anti drug awareness in the community.
“We are not only training future champions but also saving lives,” said Manyuchi.
“This is open boxing, talent scouting and a way to keep youths engaged and off the streets.”
With academies already established in Chivhu, Masvingo, Malawi, Zambia and the DRC, Manyuchi said the goal is to spread the program across the country, reaching all age groups and creating a strong grassroots boxing culture.
Speaking to the Midweek Watch, boxing coach Lad Mapiritsi based in Masvingo, explained the impact.
“The idea is simple, if young people are busy, focused and tired from training, they won’t have time or interest in drugs. Some join just for fun and end up discovering their talent.”
The initiative is supported by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Ezra Chadzamira and the national boxing board aligning with President Mnangagwa’s vision to end drug and substance abuse by 2030.
Wafa Wafa is open to all, free of charge and continues to grow as both a sports platform and a powerful social intervention in Masvingo’s high density communities.
