CHIREDZI-Citizens Coalition for Change president, Nelson Chamisa finally addressed hordes of supporters in Chiredzi at Chishamiso Stadium today after being denied a much central venue.
Chamisa addressed a packed Chishamiso Stadium and told the gathering that they were denied a venue in Chiredzi Town, hence opted for a much smaller place in Hippo Valley.
He also unveiled the party’s manifesto and promised to scrap off the Continuous Assessment Learning Activities (CALA) in the education sector.
Chamisa also cleared the confusion over who is representing CCC as he disassociated the party from independent candidate, Gibson Hwende, whom he labeled an MDC candidate.
“He remained with Mwonzora when CCC was formed, so he is not our candidate. I will not name him, because you know him.” said Chamisa.
He had to cut short his speech as the energetic leader had another crowd to address in Masvingo.
The rally was finally held at Chishamiso Stadium after a last minute change of venue, it was first scheduled for Lowveld SDA primary school ground.
According to sources, the venue was changed after the school authorities highlighted concerns over their property’s security.
The suspicion was caused by the postponed Cluster rally that was slated in July at Tshovani Stadium, which resulted in running battles as Police resorted to throwing teargas at CCC supporters who had gathered to listen to their leader.
A police communique in possession of this publication dated 09 August 2023, CCC initially wanted to hold the rally at Tshovani Stadium, but the Town Council Acting Secretary, Eng Wesley Kauma, claimed that they wanted to use the venue to prepare for Heroes and Defense Forces Day commemorations.
