A CBZ bank security guard has been slapped with 15 years behind bars for sodomising a mentally unstable man after applying some lubricants on his anus for easy penetration.

Magistrate Innocent Bepura, presided over the matter and convicted Tedious Makanje (50) for the shameful crime which the late President Mugabe described as worse than a dog.

The charges arose from an incident that occurred in 2024, involving a young man (23) and resides in Runyararo West.

The court heard that the accused, Tedious Makanje, works at CBZ Bank in Masvingo and lives in the same neighborhood as the complainant. The pair initially met at the New Start Center in Masvingo, where they exchanged contacts and began communicating through their cellphones.

On an unspecified date in 2024, Makanje invited the victim to his house, saying he wanted to engage in anal sexual intercourse. When the complainant arrived at around 5:00 PM, he was led into a locked room. Makanje then ordered him to undress while doing the same.

Makanje is accused of forcibly having sex with the complainant without his consent. He reportedly kissed him and used lubricant before engaging in anal sex.

The victim did not tell anyone about the incident until June 17, 2025, when he attended a wedding at Sarai Machina’s home. Feeling the need to share, he confided in Machina about his experience. The next day, on June 18, 2025, the complainant reported the sexual assault to the police. A medical examination at Masvingo Provincial Hospital confirmed that there was penetration, and the medical report was presented in court.

Prosecutor Liberty Hove argued that Makanje’s actions were unlawful and violated complainant’s rights.

Makanje faced charges under Section 66 (1) (a) (ii) of the Criminal Law Act, which defines aggravated indecent assault as engaging in sexual acts without consent.
