MASVINGOCatholic University of Zimbabwe (CUZ) is consolidating its foothold in tertiary education in the country by opening a campus in the ancient city beginning August this year for the convenience of their students.

CUZ director of information, communication and university services, Monica Mureriwa confirmed the development to The Midweek Watch in an interview recently, when she said this was an answer to many enquiries from students in and around the City.

CUZ started operating in Masvingo Province housed at the only Roman Catholic Teachers’ College in the country, Bondolfi in 2018 offering block release education programmes.

“We are looking forward to start enrolling students from Masvingo City and by doing so we expect to provide Masvingo residents with more choices for university education and compliment what other sister universities are offering.

“While Bondolfi will continue to be our learning centre for education programmes offered via block release during school holidays other programmes will be offered in Downtown, Masvingo City campus and the response will obviously determine when we will start although we have set August as our date of offering classes at the new campus when the second semester begins,” said Mureriwa.

She went on to say that the programmes that were offering at the 1963 tertiary institution (Bondolfi) will continue and they will be done through conventional, parallel, block and blended online teaching and learning in the faculties of Commerce, Innovation and Technology, Education, Social Sciences, Humanities, Theology, Ethics and Religious Studies.

“So far we have been offering Block Release education programmes they are going to continue therefore we intend to offer all programmes in all 4 faculties through various modes of instruction i.e conventional, parallel, block and blended online teaching and learning and the faculties are Faculty of Commerce Innovation and Technology, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities and Faculty of Theology, Ethics and Religious Studies,” said Mureriwa.

The other Masvingo Campus will be located at Shingirirayi College in the City’s oldest suburb of Mucheke.

CUZ which is Catholic Church affiliated university was established in 1999 in Harare, Craneborne offering six undergraduate degree programs and short courses under the Faculty of Commerce and the Faculty of Humanities.
