-Silveira maintains top spot

MASVINGO-Masvingo Diocese Roman Catholic Church run schools witnessed a slight increase of 0.5% in the 2024 Zimbabwe School Examinations Council pass rate for A Level.

Last year the schools recorded 95.9% and this year the pass rate was 96.4% for the 708 learners who sat for the examinations in 2024 from the 10 schools.
The pass rate was confirmed by the Masvingo Diocese education secretary Fr Samson Mutsvanga through an analysis he circulated to stakeholders recently.
The performance compares well with the national pass rate for the ZIMSEC 2024 A Level which stands at 94.58.
A total of 231 students sat for arts subjects and all of them passed, an improvement from the 99.5% in 2023.
“All schools recorded a 100% pass rate in arts subjects. This is commendable! Needy is there to maintain the 100% pass rate in this area,” said Fr Mutsvanga in a commentary accompanying the results analysis.
In the commercials 158 students posted 88.4% a drop from 91.9% recorded in 2023. Silveira, Nyaningwe and Shingirirai had all their candidates passing the commercials.
Science subjects had the highest number of candidates at 446 with a pass rate of 92.9% a rise from 88.2% in 2023, and only Silveira had all its students passing while Sacred Heart recorded 50% pass rate.
One hundred and sixty three candidates had 15 points and above with Silveira having the lion’s share of 71 from a total of 113 who sat for the ZIMSEC exams in 2024 from the school followed by St Anthony with 28, Mukaro had 27 followed by Gokomere which had 16, Nyaningwe had 8, Berejena had 7, St Mary’s had 4 with Shingirirai and Sacred Heart one each and Mutero had none.
