After the death of the first Masvingo Province rural opposition Member of Parliament Hon Mutongi a bloody by-election ever in the history of Zimbabwe was held in Bikita West in which Rtd Col Claudious Makova was ZanuPF candidate vs Boni Pakayi of MDC.
Hon Rtd Col Claudious Makova besides his tinted political history he was a rich historical moving book on the chieftainships of the whole of Bikita District.
He would narrate Chief Ziki, Chief Mazungunye, Chief Marozva etc without stammering. He would give details of the family tree of each of the chieftainships so eloquently that left many astonished.
Rtd Col Claudious Makova was a natural inborn Bikita Chieftainship moving history book. The biggest mistake he made was that he didn’t write down this history. Bikita residents should remember that they are burying a history book, political violence, a politician, a military man and muzukuru wavo.
It will be important for people of Bikita to reflect correctly on Rtd Col Claudious Makova’s life. He had very positive contributions but also the negative contributions must be lessons to everyone.
The positive contributions by Hon Makova was the various unrelated to him children he helped with school fees. He had many developmental projects he started in the District. He made big impact on national politics and military.
Rtd Col Claudious Makova’s association with political violence in Bikita had many victims, orphans and many who lost livestock and homes. The people of Bikita must take this a big lesson. Those who suffered were Bikita people…related to each other. This should never happen again. Political difference is healthy and should be appreciated in Bikita.
Rest in peace Rtd Col Claudious Makova. The Bikita Chieftainship History book is no more. The man who presided the worst political violence by election is no more. The man who helped many orphans with school fees is no more.
Bikita must take not only the positive but also to debate the negatives about Rtd Col Claudious Makova to map the way forward for the district. Bikita must enjoy peace, democratic modern elections, and live in politics of diversity. Intimidation and violence must be fir primitive areas not Bikita…let everyone support and vote freely.
