MWENEZI-Barely a month after donating a consignment of hospital equipment to Mwenezi District Hospital, Bubye Valley Conservancy (BVC) on 18 December, 2025 once again, extended its corporate social responsibility hand to the mortuary.
BVC this time refurbished the hospital’s grounded mortuary, coupled by another consignment donation of hospital equipment, consisting 24 beds and 18 side lockers.
BVC community education engagement manager, Collete Sayi commissioned the refurnished mortuary and handed the equipment to Mwenezi Rural District Council Chairperson, Councillor Admire Matutu.
Sayi highlighted that BVC’s mandate was to oversee the conservation of wild life, but it firmly believes that the value of its work can only be of benefit if it uplifts the standard of life of the people in its area of operation. “As BVC, we are of the idea that the survival of the natural resources which we are protecting can only be meaningful if it positively impacts on communities that we serve,” hinted Sayi who went on to explain the wish of BVC.
“As BVC, we consider communities which we operate in as the key beneficiaries of our programs,” noted Sayi highlighting that BVC was concerned by the absence of a functional mortuary at Mwenezi District Hospital.
” After getting reports from the Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution and the District Development Coordinator , BVC considered the plea to refurbish the mortuary given the importance of the structure in the district, especially that we are moving towards the festive season which is characterized by an increase in road traffic accidents along the highway,” explained Sayi.
“As BVC, we cherish durability and quality. We are pleased that the public works department was engaged to do the refurbishment and l hope this perfect job will sustain the mortuary for a long time,” he added.
“These hospital beds and side lockers we are handing over today were assembled by Sustainable Agriculture Technology (SAT), BVC contracted the Company so as to facilitate and promote practical training of SAT students and l am happy the students did a wonderful job as you can see,” hinted Sayi.
Cllr Matutu hailed BVC for refurbishing the mortuary and donating another consignment of hospital equipment. “Mwenezi Rural District Council, is grateful to BVC for championing development in Mwenezi through corporate social responsibility, l challenge other companies to emulate BVC as we partner each other in the development of our district and nation at large” acknowledged Matutu.
Mwenezi District Development Coordinator, Isaac Mutambara hailed the double donation indicating that BVC has proved to be an all weather friend of the district.
Angela Chikondo, District Health Services Administrator welcomed the refurbishment of the hospital and the donation of hospital equipment stating that it meant a lot to the institution. Traditional leaders, councillors, district heads of government departments and Public Service Commission, Human Resources Director, Last Gondo witnessed the handover ceremony.
The hospital, apart from being the district referral centre also plays a critical role in attending to victims of accidents along the busy Beitbridge-Masvingo highway due to its proximity.
