GWERU-The ruling Zanu PF party has called on its members to bury primary elections differences and unite ahead of this year’s harmonised elections.
President Mnangagwa is expected to proclaim election dates anytime from now.
Addressing Zanu PF inter-district meeting held in Gweru today, Provincial secretary for security Owen Ncube says there will be no re-run in Gweru district hence all members should rally behind the winners.
He denounced factionalism in the revolutionary party, adding that Zanu PF is supreme and the people belong to the party not an individual candidate.
“Those who are for the revolution will defend it. There will be no re-run in Gweru, no re-run in your wards and we should unite people in all constituencies. The winning candidates should not purge those who were supporting other candidates but should embrace all Zanu PF members and look at the bigger picture of winning elections.
“All our internal processes are done and dusted and what is left is to campaign for President Mnangagwa, Members of Parliament and councilors so that the party wins resoundingly,” he said.
The former Security Minister added that all cadres should defend the party by voting for ruling party candidates.
He urged party members to emulate President Mnangagwa’s call for peaceful elections.
“Let us all be peaceful as we go into elections. We don’t want violence; let’s preach the gospel of non-violence being preached by the President. Let’s campaign in peace and we need a united team because our enemy is the British, Americans and the opposition.
“These are our enemies. We don’t have enemies within Zanu PF, hence we should move with one voice to produce good results,” said Ncube known as ‘Mudha’ in political cycles.
He said the Midlands province should fight for record votes and urged aspiring candidates to start campaigning by embarking on tangible programs and claim constituencies in the hands of the Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC).
Ncube added that the party should start doing door to door campaigns as the opposition is already out campaigning.
He said “no one should be arrested for campaigning, as it is not a criminal offence to campaign for a leader”.
He warned aspiring MPs against abusing party vehicles allocated to them saying the cars are for campaigning in order to win elections.
Ncube also took the opportunity to rally Zanu PF affiliates to vigorously campaign for the party.
