Buhera in quarantine following foot and mouth outbreak

BUHERA – Buhera District Veterinary Services Department has confirmed the outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD).
In a memorandum addressed to stock owners, all government departments, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and Buhera Business Community on 13 February 2024, District Veterinary officer, Doctor Samson Chiduku said Buhera has been put under quarantine.
“You are hereby notified that the land under Buhera inspectorate; Chiriga, Chapwanya, Nerutanga, Maburutse, Mharabwe, Chizhou, Musviba and Chiputu diptanks in the district of Buhera of which there are at least 200 infected or suspected to be infected with foot and mouth, is placed in quarantine for the period infinite,
“During this period no ruminant and pigs may be moved or allowed to stray into or from the above mentioned land,” wrote Dr Chiduku.
To mitigate the spread of the disease, the stock owners were advised to report any suspicion of sick animals to the department of veterinary services (DVS), produce all cattle for vaccination and inspection when called by DVS, sensitize and educate other stock owners and report any illegal movements of cattle, sheep, goats and pigs to ZRP and DVS.
