CHIREDZI- National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi has ordered Chiredzi Police to get to the bottom of Mai 2’s alleged drug dealings which are said to be involving senior cops in the area.

Mai 2, real name, Sinikiwe Ndlovu is alleged to be working in cahoots with law enforcement agents and at one time was arrested with drugs weighing more than 5kg but when she appeared in court, the exhibit showed less than a kg, which only attracted a light fine.

Nyathi said drug and substance abuse is now a national menace hence there is need to leave no stone unturned in routing out malcontents in society.

He was speaking at the Media Institute of Southern Africa-Zim Security Training workshop for journalists last week on Wednesday in Chiredzi.

During the meeting it was revealed that Mai 2 has been in out of courts, and this has not deterred her from drug dealing as she is not being handed any deterrent custodial sentence.

Nyathi assigned Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector, Kudakwashe Dhewa to ensure that Mai 2’s case is thoroughly investigated and justice is done.

“Due to the serious drugs and substance abuse in the country, we are going after all those involved so that we bring them to book regardless of their social standing in society.

“A lot of police officers are losing their jobs after being found on the wrong of the law with cases involving drugs topping the list.

“This Mai 2 issue, let Provincial police Spokesperson Inspector Dhewa get to the bottom of the issue and if police officers are somehow involved, we will not hesitate to fish them out,” said Nyathi.

It was also revealed during the meeting by an eye witness that the real fight against drugs should be directed at the Police as at one time, when Mai 2 was arrested she was allegedly found in possession of large quantities of drugs but when they were send to the post office for weighing they were found to be way less than actual drugs found at the scene, implying that some officers were involved in concealing the evidence.

“This fight against drugs should be directed at police as they are the ones working hand in hand with the drug dealers, Mai 2 was allegedly found with a large quantity of drugs but later on at the court the exhibit was far less than a kg, which made her case very light,” said the eyewitness.

According to the state case Sinikiwe Ndlovu (48) of house number 664 B Cheruwa Road with her husband Shephard Mafanele (46) were last week arrested for being found in possession of drugs.

Ndlovu is facing 2 counts, 1st count of possession of 2 sachets of crystal myth and 2nd count possession of 14 sachets of dagga and 1 sachet of loose dagga seeds and she was remanded in custody.

Nyathi implored the courts not to grant drug dealers bail as they continue selling the substances as soon as they are set free.

“If possible, they should not be granted bail because soon after they are out they continue again their business and are back at the courts with the cycle going on and on” said Nyathi.
