House reduced to ashes in Sisk

MASVINGO-While people celebrate whenever electricity is restored, unfortunately this was not the case with Veronica Zakariya of number 1847 along Second Street in Mucheke Sisk area as her house caught fire soon after power was restored.

The unfortunate incident happened today at 12pm soon after power was restored in Masvingo while Zakariya was attending church.

Sources who told The Midweek Watch said a neighbour saw thick smoke coming out of the house and had to break the doors to gain entry but it was too late as most of the household items had been reduced to ashes and only a few things from the dining room were retrieved from the raging flames.

Police attended attended, but efforts to get a comment from Masvingo Police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa were fruitless as his mobile was not reachable.

The Midweek Watch could not ascertain the number of people who stay at the house, but it was said the Masvingo Redcross and the District Development Coordinator’s office were mobilising support for the elderly woman since she was left with nothing.
