MIDWEEK REPORTER
CHIPINGE-EIGHT YEAR old Brighton Mhlanga of Lezia Farm under Chief Mapungwana in Chipinge drowned in a well while fetching water for household use.
On March 1 at around 6pm, Brighton and his siblings aged 10 and 6 went to fetch water from a nearby well which is 3m deep.
As Brighton was lowering his container to draw water he slipped into the well and drowned.
The 10 year old sibling went to inform Robert Moyana (54) and Philemon Dhlakama (30) who rushed to the scene and retrieved Brighton’s body.
A report was made at Grass Flats Police Post and the body was taken to Chipinge District Hospital for postmortem.
The tragedy was confirmed by Manicaland Province acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka who implored parents and guardians not to allow children to be near water bodies without an adult person monitoring their movements as this leads to unnecessary loss of innocent lives.
