ZVISHAVANE- Emmanuel Isheanesu Malunga, 17 has been jailed 30 months behind bars by a Gweru Magistrate Christopher Maturure on 17 August 2023 after he shot his father, Mhuriyashe Malunga four times for beating his mother.
Emmanuel pleaded guilty on charges of attempted murder and was sentenced to 30 months in prison, 5 months were suspended for 5 years and he will effectively serve 25months jail term.
Emmanuel was charged with attempted murder after he shot his father Mhuriyashe Malunga who is a licensed firearm holder and owns a Bruno .22 caliber rifle serial number 680803 with a magazine and live rounds of ammunition which he kept in the wardrobe.
Representing the State prosecutor Faith Mwale told the court that on August 13, 2023 Mhuriyashe Malunga arrived home at around 10pm and discovered that his wife Sithunyiwe Sofa had returned home late from a church gathering.
He accused her of adultery in the presence of their son and started assaulting her with fists and open hands. He went on to assault his son with fists and open hands but he managed to flee himself from him.
The court heard that, Malunga senior force marched Sofa to the church while assaulting her along the way and this angered his son who went to take his father’s riffle.
When Malunga senior returned from the church his son who was hiding in the bush fired four shots at him and he sustained gunshot wounds on both lower limbs, one on the left buttock and one on the right wrist. Emmanuel Malunga left the firearm after shooting and disappeared from the scene.
On August 14, 2023 at around 5am detectives from CID Zvishavane received a tipoff to the effect that Emmanuel had returned to his place of residence and acting on that information arrested him at House number 1580 Escrow, Zvishavane.
