GWERU-Yesteryear giants Highlanders FC assistant coach, Joel Lupahla said they are geared to bag the 2023 Castle larger Premier Soccer League tittle despite the departure of some experienced players during the off-season.

Lupahla said the club has since roped in young blood to fill the gaps, but they need some time to gain confidence and experience.

Lupahla was speaking to journalists on the sidelines of a friendly match against the Sheasham FC aka Construction Boys at Ascot stadium in Gweru at the weekend.

The match ended nil-all as both sides failed to utilize the glaring scoring chances that they created.

“There is always that push and pressure to win the league tittle. We may be far away from what we want to be, but we have to meet some of the targets and end the league title drought. The good thing is that we retained the bulk of our team,” he said.

He said the club ended last season on a positive note and they want continue from where they left as they introduce new blood from Bosso90.

Lupahla admitted though that the task would not be easy as they lost some experienced players that include Adrian Silla, Nqobizitha Masuku, Muziwakhe Dlamini and Bukhosi Sibanda.

“We lost key players. They didn’t  go for free. Nqobizita (Masuka) was not only the team vice captain but he was a key part of the team. I hope we will be able to help the youngsters to gel in the team and keep moving after the decent ending that we had last season,” said Lupahla.

Bosso finished the season on fifth position in the Castle Lager PSL behind Ngezi Platinum FC, Dynamos FC, Chicken Inn and champions FC Platinum.

However, the Bulawayo giant retained key players such as Prince Ndlovu and Devine Mhindirira who was cleared following a disciplinary hearing on Tuesday.

The team also signed relegated Bulawayo City FC utility player Elshamar Farasi.
