CHIPINGE-Chipinge Police yesterday (Wednesday) received a patrol vehicle from the Chipinge Business Community.

The event took place at Chipinge Urban Police Station.

The vehicle, a Mazda B1800 was bought by the business community under the banner Business Against Crime Forum Zimbabwe ( BACRFOZ).

The business community decided to buy a patrol car for the local police as the station has no cars while crime rates are soaring in the district.

Between May and July this year, big shops which were robbed at gunpoint include Gains Wholesalers, Delta Beverages and Grandrid.

The project was being spearheaded by prominent Chipinge businessman, Godwill Mlambo popularly known as JustOne who is the chairman of BACRFOZ Chipinge Chapter.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Chipinge District Administrative Officer, Tedious Beto said he appreciates the combined efforts from the business community in fighting crime in the community.

“The programme for the handover went on well. We appreciate the combined efforts from the business community in fighting crime in our district.

“May the hands that have donated be blessed. Hopefully the spirit of complimenting Government efforts shall be spread across all institutions and more people will be inspired by this good gesture.  Once again thank you all who worked hard to achieve this,” he said.

Mlambo who is the chairperson of the Chipinge Business Community Against Crime said the business community has since raised close to US$8000 for the project.

“It was an opportune moment for Chipinge Business Community to showcase their solidarity over a common security problem. We managed to mobilize resources more than enough to buy our target vehicle which was a Honda Fit or Probox.

“We ended up buying a pick- up truck better suitable for police patrols. In just four weeks, the project objective was achieved.

“We are really proud as Chipinge Business Community that we are part of the solution to our problems. We just pray that the police will use and maintain the vehicle properly for safeguarding our security. We have raised close to US$8000 for this project,” he said.
