CHIVI-Arguably the most hard working and visible MP in the country, Chivi North legislator, Godfrey Huruva Mukungunugwa has handed over sugar beans to Village Business Units (VBUs) and School-Based Units (SBUs) across the constituency in a move aimed at strengthening community livelihoods and improving food security.

The hand over held at Mhandamabwe saw each VBU receiving 10 kilogrammes of sugar beans seed while SBUs were allocated 5 kilogrammes from all wards in the constituency and the initiative is expected to enhance ongoing income-generating and nutrition projects being undertaken by communities and schools.

Speaking at the handover ceremony last Monday, Mukungunugwa said the sugar beans from President Mnangagwa are meant to sustain and support the projects already being implemented by the units.

“These sugar beans that we were given by President Mnangagwa are there to sustain the projects that you are already doing. We are doing this to support our schools, communities and villagers so that we can achieve his Vision 2030 as a constituency,” he said.

He emphasized the importance of unity and collective effort in driving development in Chivi North.

“As Chivi North, we want to work together without hatred so that we develop our constituency together and achieve President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030,” he added.

Mukungunugwa also highlighted ongoing rural transformation efforts spearheaded by the President, noting that the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has electrified at Chigaba Primary School.

He said Denga Primary, Masunda North Primary, Befura Primary, Shumba Primary, Makovere Primary, Chiware Primary, Mangwana Primary and Miti Township are also expected to benefit from the ambitious electrification program before the end of the year.

Beneficiaries welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful.

Future Gwanzura, Chairperson at Rubweruchena Primary School applauded the programme saying the VBUs and SBUs are playing a crucial role in addressing hunger and food shortages within communities.

“The VBUs have gone a long way in assisting families, especially single mothers, who are now able to pay school fees for their children through proceeds from these projects,” she said.

Another beneficiary, Zandile Chidume from Maramba VBU encouraged young women to participate in the programme.

“I urge young women to join the VBU programme so that they can ensure food security at household level and also generate income to support their families,” she said.

The donation is part of broader efforts to empower rural communities in Chivi which is an arid district through sustainable agricultural and income generating initiatives.
