Bogus Chief Chiwundura, Wellington Tavengwa exposed

GWERU- Chief Director in Charge of Traditional Leaders Support Services in the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, Felix Chikovo has exposed Wellington Tavengwa (pictured) as a fake.

Tawengwa was masquerading as a representative of Chief Chiwundura born Abedinico Tavengwa but Chikovo said the former has no authority to act or represent him.

“We don’t have a proxy under Chief Chiwundura and whoever is claiming that title is a criminal, ” said Chikovo.

Tavengwa’s claims were met with skepticism by family members and Chiwundura community who are saying he is trying to gain influence to allegedly scam people.

In a letter dated May 20, 2025, and directed to the Acting Local Government Director Midlands Province Chalton Murove, Chikovo ordered the removal of Tavengwa from acting as a proxy.

“We have received very disturbing news from one Sarudzai, a member of the Chiwundura family about the alleged house arrest of Chief Chiwundura by his son Wellington Tavengwa.

“It is alleged that Chief Chiwundura is not feeling well and his son took advantage of his father’s illness and made him sign papers consenting that he appointed him as a proxy due to his illnesses.  Section 47 of Traditional Leaders Act (Chapter 29:17) provides that, in the event of the incapacity of a chief, headman or village head, the functions of the chief headman or village head as the case may be shall be discharged by such persons as may be determined according to customary law. It is clear that the chief’s son imposed himself as the proxy against customary law,” reads part of the letter in the possession of The Midweek Watch.

According to well -placed sources, the newly installed Chief Chiwundura is under house arrest and his son Wellington is operating as the chief moving around with the government issued ISuzu vehicle.

Wellington confirmed the development in an interview with The Midweek Watch.

“Yes, I am the Chief ‘s representative and I am doing all his duties on his behalf because he is incapacitated. He is bedridden and he cannot discharge his duties,” he said
