MASVINGO- Police is investigating a case of suspected murder in Mwenezi where the body of a 46 year old man was thrown onto the Harare Beitbridge Highway and reported as hit and run.

The case is now being treated as murder after Police found some bruises on the neck of Wisani Baloyi’s body last Monday at around 4am although the matter was reported as a hit and run case.

Wisani Baloyi from Chitanga Village under Chief Chitanga was found lying dead on the road in the wee hours of March 06 near Chitanga Primary School with bruises on the neck and injured body.

Masvingo Provincial Police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the sad incident and said the matter was initially reported as an accident, but the police is now investigating a murder case because of what they saw on his body.

“We appeal to the public for information which may lead to the apprehension of the suspects who murdered Baloyi. On March 6 around 4am, the police received a call from a motorist reporting a dead body he found along the road. The police arrived at the scene to attend a hit and run case but later realised that the body had bruises on the neck and injured back head which forced them to investigate the matter as murder.

“The accused person has not yet been found but we have gathered that the matter point towards murder,” said Dhewa.

The circumstances are that on March 5 the deceased was watching soccer in Tapesana Bar at Lundi Business centre and at around 1am he left on his bicycle to go home.

The next morning around 4am police received a call that a dead body was lying at 105km peg along Masvingo- Beitbridge Highway.

The police attended the scene but upon investigation they noticed that the deceased had some neck bruises and back head injuries which forced them to change the case as murder.

The next of kin identified the body which is currently at Neshuro Hospital for post mortem.
