MASVINGO – Tikudze Shava (24) who is blind and has become a permanent feature in the streets of Masvingo City where he entertains commuters and shoppers is appealing for help with a place to stay as he has an expecting wife.

“My immediate wish is to find somewhere to stay with my wife who is expecting which is conducive for the newly born baby.

“I also would want to be helped to revive my business that was destroyed by people who were borrowing my stuff without paying and taking advantage of my situation”.

Shava was born and bred in Mberengwa and his parents died in 2013.

He went to Makuwerere Primary School in Mberengwa which could not cater for his special needs hence dropped off.

Shava’s parents later enrolled him at Musume School in 2011 where he completed his primary education and he then went to Copota School for the Blind in Zimuto, Masvingo Rural.

He went as far as form 2 and dropped off as he could not afford to pay the fees and other provisions.

Shava told The Midweek Watch that he decided to go to South Africa in 2021 for greener pastures as an illegal immigrant.

He stayed in Pretoria where he was begging for money and that kept him going for some time until he thought of singing and bought himself a speaker and started singing in the streets to get more money.

While in South Africa some of the residents and shop owners who stayed close by donated some stuff for him to stop begging so that he can be a professional artist and then relocated to Johannesburg.

In Johannesburg he recorded his first album in 2022 and decided to move back to Zimbabwe with discs for sale.

Shava sold his music discs in Harare and then came back to Masvingo where they were sold out and then he started going around the streets singing to different people who fell in love with his music and he would get appreciation money for survival.

“Since my discs sold out I have been moving around Masvingo City with my speaker and sing at different places and I been surviving from the money that people give me as they appreciate my music,” said Shava.
