MIDLANDS – A solitary strike by Mandhla Ngwenya was enough to power Buchwa-based Black Eagles FC back to winning ways after beating Siwawa FC 1-0 on Sunday.
The win comes on the backdrop of a defeat to Shurugwi FC and a share of the spoils against fellow title contenders, Great Dyke FC.
The win means that Black Eagles have now amassed 32 points from 15 games and still have a game in hand.
Contrastingly, Black Eagles, won on a weekend that Mbesa FC suffered a 2-1 defeat to Chachacha FC.
Black Eagles team Manager Wilbert Zveshure said the game was not a stroll in the park as evidenced by the slender result.
“The game was not easy as reflected by the slender result. We struggled first to cope with excessive temperatures though there was no threat from the opponent especially in front of the goal.
“We were not counter-pressing in the first half as we expected however, in the second half when we introduced speed merchant, Mandla Ngwenya, the complexion of the game changed. Ngwenya scored from his second touch,” he said.
Chachacha FC will head into matchday 17 petched at the summit of the log with 33 points while Mbesa dropped to third with 31 points.
Meanwhile, fellow Mberengwa-based Great Dyke recorded a 3-0 walkover victory over Mvuma Stars FC who arrived late at Education Stadium.
