The Zimbabwe Bishops Conference of Zimbabwe (ZBCZ) held its district meeting in Mwenezi over the weekend, marking a significant step in strengthening its structures as an emerging church association.
The gathering drew about sixty-five bishops who reaffirmed their commitment to national development and pledged support for the President’s Vision 2030. Addressing the assembly, ZBCZ president Archbishop Dr. Henry Ziwerere underscored the importance of unity among religious congregations, describing it as a key ingredient in the country’s journey towards achieving Vision 2030. He further stressed the organisation’s allegiance to the National Association Multi-Faith Economic Dialogue (NAMFED).
NAMFED is led by its president, Obey Mapuranga who could not make it to the meeting.
In his remarks, ZBCZ public relations and information secretary Rev. Musavengana Tahwa called for continued unity within the association, clarifying that ZBCZ’s focus remains solely on Zionist churches, distinguishing it from other broader church affiliations.
The event was attended by District Development Coordinator (DDC) Isaac Mutambara, representatives of Mwenezi North MP Master Makope, and traditional leaders including Chiefs Mazetese and Mawarire, who were accompanied by their headmen.
DDC Mutambara emphasised the critical role of faith leaders in the attainment of Vision 2030. He also urged the clergy to take a leading role in combating drug and substance abuse, which he described as one of the most pressing social challenges facing communities today.
