BIKITA – James Mhlanga (33) from Village 25 in Ziki, Bikita, is battling for his life after he was brutally attacked with a machete by Tobias Manyanga twice on both cheeks during a beer-drinking session.
The incident happened at Chedutu Business Centre on June 23 around 7pm.
According to ZRP Masvingo Province Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, James was drinking beer with his brother, Joromia, and Manyanga earlier that evening, around 6:30pm, Manyanga reportedly left the group and returned about 20 minutes later visibly drunk and armed with a machete.
Joromia then went to the toilet, without warning or provocation, he allegedly attacked Mhlanga, striking him twice on both cheeks and leaving him with deep wounds.
Joromia, heard the noise and rushed back to find his brother lying in a pool of blood and the suspect standing at a distance.
He quickly rendered first aid and, with the help of others, facilitated James’s transfer to Mashoko Hospital, where he was later referred to Masvingo Provincial Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.
As of now, Tobias Manyanga remains at large and has not yet been apprehended by police.
