Big weekend as Dorcas launches 11th album

MUTARE CITY-Gospel sensation Dorcas Moyo (44) and Heavenly Melodies Band will this weekend launch her 11th album, ‘Mvere Dzabvepi’ although in the streets the track making headlines is Mugeri Tsvatu.

Songstress Dorcas Moyo.

Mugeri Tsvatu is an extraction from the Bible found in 2 Samuel verse 10 where the Ammonites had shown kindness to David when he was fleeing from King Saul. However, when David’s envoys arrived to express condolences for the death of Hanun’s father, they are met with suspicion and hostility.

Hanun’s advisors convinced him that David’s envoys were spies, and they subjected them to public humiliation. The envoys are forced to have half of their beards shaved off, which was considered a significant embarrassment in ancient Jewish culture. Additionally, their garments were cut off at the buttocks further adding to their humiliation.

When David learns about the humiliation of his envoys, he sends a message to Hanun, warning him that the Ammonites will face dire consequences for their actions. David’s response is a military one, as he seeks to avenge the insult to his men and assert his authority.

The story provides valuable insights into the cultural and social norms of the time, particularly regarding honor, dignity and the treatment of emissaries.

The album has ten tracks namely Kazevezeve, Mugeri Tsvatu, Denga Rina Mwari, Wodalitsika ft Dr Ethel Banda, Munamato, Panopfurika, Mubatsiri Wangu, Wamunodisa, Jerusarema, Rumbidzo Yangu and bonus track Messiah Ndichamuona ft Norbert Mukombe and Pastor C. Vhengere.

Her manager Peter Madondo in an interview with The Midweek Watch promised nothing short of fireworks at Mutare showground, the launch venue.

“We are promising our fans an unforgettable encounter with the cream de la cream of Zimbabwean gospel music. We encourage everyone to come and have a lifetime opportunity in a friendly environment. May we come together and support our very own. I have confidence that Dorcas once again nailed it and it’s a never to miss album,” commented Madondo.
