Beitbridge District delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 Matabeleland South National Association Primary Heads athletics competitions, finishing at the top with a total of 45 medals ,27 gold, 12 silver and 6 bronze.

The event held at Minda High School saw intense competition amongst eight districts across the province.
Insiza finished second with 40 medals (18 gold, 8 silver, 14 bronze). Mangwe and Umzingwane each collected 27 medals, with Mangwe securing 9 gold, 8 silver and 10 bronze while Umzingwane earned 7 gold, 8 silverand 12 bronze.
Matobo recorded 36 medals (6 gold, 15 silver, 15 bronze). Other districts also put up strong performances with Gwanda South collecting 21 medals (6 gold, 6 silver, 9 bronze), Gwanda North earning 19 medals (4 gold, 11 silver, 4 bronze) and Bulilima also finishing with 19 medals (1 gold, 10 silver, 8 bronze).
Speaking after the victory, Beitbridge District Athletics Coach Terra Mukwevho said the achievement exceeded expectations.
“This result was a great surprise even to my superiors. The athletes were incredibly dedicated and worked extremely hard. I am the happiest coach because this has never happened before,” said Mukwevho.
The team is now preparing for the National Championships set for the 16th to 20th of March at Trojan Stadium, Bindura where they will compete against top athletes from across the country.
Mukwevho also encouraged learners across the district to take part in sport, emphasizing its role in developing talent, discipline and teamwork.
The victory marks Beitbridge’s second provincial athletics title since he started coaching the team, having previously won the competition in 2020.
