Beitbridge churches to hold prayer against road carnage

BEITBRIDGE- Churches under the banner of Ministers Fraternal will on Saturday this week embark on an anti-accidents intercessory spiritual prayer crusade against road carnage along major roads, with the inaugural event set for Beitbridge town.

Head on collision accident scene involving a haulage truck and Urban Connect bus that killed 26 people two weeks ago near Lutomba tollgate along Masvingo Beitbridge road.

Event organiser Pastor Busani Moyo confirmed the development in an interview.

“We have noted with concern that the government has made long strides in improving our major roads however, regardless of its tireless efforts, accidents have continue to claim lives.

“It is therefore, the duty of churches to pray for our roads so that they become accident free zones.

“We are going to hold the crusade here in Beitbridge at Matsheloni Business Centre on 1 March, 2025 from 10 am to 12 pm and preparations are at an advanced stage. This programme is going to be held in support of government departments and we will hold our last meeting on Wednesday to discuss a few issues concerning the programme,” he said.

Beitbridge district has been experiencing lots of fatal accidents leading to loss of life.

The most affected areas are OJS (Beitbridge Urban), Malala, 20 km along the Beitbridge-Bulawayo Road, Mazunga, 60 km along the Beitbridge-Bulawayo Road, Chamnanga to Bubi along the Beitbridge-Masvingo Highway and the Bubi to Beitbridge stretch.

A week ago, 24 people were killed when an Urban Connect collided with a commercial haulage truck collided along the Beitbridge-Masvingo Highway.

President Mnangagwa declared the accident a national disaster and the deceased were accorded State -assisted burials.
