Chiredzi –Brighton Mupfumba (40) from Village 1 Chikwirire, is battling for his life after he was allegedly attacked by a fellow villager, Kelvin Zambuko (31), from Village 4, for refusimg to buy him beer.
The incident occurred on May 29 at around 3PM in Chikwirira Township, where Mupfumba had gone to spend time drinking beer with friends.
According to ZRP Masvingo Province Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu, Mupfumba failed to return home that night, prompting concern from his father, Moses Mupfumba (73), who began searching for him.
At around 7am the following day Moses found his son lying unconscious near the township and rushed him to Chikwirire Clinic where Brighton later regained consciousness.
Upon waking up he claimed that Zambuko had assaulted him after he failed to buy him beer.
The complainant had been hit on the head and body several times with a stone by the accused.
He was referred to Chiredzi General Hospital for further treatment as his condition was serious.
Police have since arrested Zambuko, who is now assisting with investigations.
