MASVINGO- As the fight against drug abuse intensifies, Bigmamama Zimbabwe in Zvishavane continues to walk the talk through edutainment shows at schools in the Great Dyke region.
Bigmama Zimbabwe is a registered entertainment company which has partnered with Zimbabwe Broadcasting Cooperations (ZBC) to promote youth empowerment through talent shows and fight substance and drug abuse which has become rampant across the country.
In the second term academic calendar, Bigmama has organised an edutainment talent show where the Mudhara Hitmaker, Bazooker real name Collet Wahita will be performing live at Shabani Mine Pre-School on June 02 this year to mark the series of events which will be happening in the Great Dyke.
These shows will be accompanied by competitions where school pupils interested in taking part are to register with their schools in dance, singing, drama and modelling.
Speaking to The Midweek Watch Bigmama Zimbabwe director Tupac Chivhanga said there are competitions lined up throughout the term where they will be inviting at random Zimbabwean artists to take part and motivate the youths particularly those interested in singing.
“Our ticket is going for a dollar which we hope will be affordable for all school kids because we are trying to leave no one child behind. Thus the tickets will be available at schools hosting the show at that time.
“For this coming event which will be first for this term we have Bazooker coming down from Harare , for the competitions judges will be selected from school teachers and masters of ceremony (MC) will be selected and advised in due course.
“Those wanting to take part are to register with their school teachers and indicate their areas of interests. The future is in our hands, failure to thrive means good people are doing nothing.
“So as Bigmama we are doing everything in our power to provide these platforms and make sure dreams of youngsters are achievable,”said Chivhanga.
Speaking in an Interview with this reporter Wahita said the he is looking forward to the show which gives him satisfaction since issues of drug abuse are very close to his heart.
“I always find joy in taking part in such projects because it gives satisfaction of the heart since I will be taking part in such a great initiative.
“Drug abuse especially by the youth have destroyed so many lives and if we have people committed to fight that cause, I am more than willing to perform and be part of the fight.
“This is not really about money for me but the results and what it will benefit us and I am looking forward to it,” he said.
Bigmama offers opportunities in four categories that is dance competition where the judges will be looking for unique dance that can bring forth our culture.
The singing competition will concentrate on the traditional and modern song of competitors’ choice but will be advised to focus on anti-drugs abuse and school dropout.
The third category is drama that can be performed by less than five people, but will seek to show the goodness of ubuntu and early marriages campaigns while the last category which is modelling, the judges will look at the catwalk by the competitor and dress code, based on school wear and casual.
