GWERU-With only 10 minutes left to close the bank a teller was tricked by robbers who neatly went away US$4 500 richer.
The robbers approached the teller and requested for US$100 notes with stars on them and when the teller was away looking the said notes the robbers neatly packed their loot undisturbed and disappeared in broad day light.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Police confirmed the robbery which has shocked the banking community in Gweru with some saying it was witchcraft at play.
Others are saying this could be an arranged robbery as the teller could not be that stupid to go and look for starred notes leaving money in the open with strangers if the police’s stamen is anything to go by.
“Police in Gweru are investigating a case of theft which occurred at a bank on Friday (12-1-24) at around 1450 hours in which three unidentified male suspects confronted a bank teller purporting to be looking for US$100.00 notes with stars printed on them.
“The suspects took advantage of the bank teller who was busy looking for the said notes and stole US$4 500.00 cash,” reads the stament without elaborating.
