Bani man (52) burnt beyond recognition in inferno

MASVINGO- A 52 year old man from Bani area in Masvingo Rural was burnt beyond in a house last Sunday.

Gregory Marimbe from Village 32 C , Bani was found dead after the house he was sleeping in caught fire suspected to be from the cigarette which he was smoking.

Masvingo Provincial Police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident and said the cause of fire is yet to be established.

“The body was ferried to Masvingo Provincial Hospital for post mortem but investigations are underway. The cause of the fire is yet to be established,” said Dhewa.

The circumstances are that on Sunday at around 2am the deceased came back from Bani Shopping Centre where he was drinking beer.

He passed through the dining room with a bottle of beer and a burning cigarette.

Inside the dining room there were some people sleeping who saw him.

After an hour they then head some screams coming from his bedroom.

Upon investigations they saw that the whole was engulfed on fire and it was fast spreading to another room.

They tried to extinguish the inferno but it was too late as the ceiling had already given in.

A police report was made and the Masvingo fire Brigade rushed to the scene and put out the fire.

His body was retrieved from charred house but, burnt beyond recognition.

The body taken to Masvingo Provincial Hospital for postmortem.
