MASVINGO-While the Middle East war is being fought some thousands of kilometres away from Zimbabwe its effects are being heavily felt at home.

This is witnessed by a sharp rise in the price of diesel from $1.52 to $1.77 per litre according to energy regulator, the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA).
ZERA announced new petroleum prices effective March 4, 2026 following changes on the international market.
According to the latest price schedule, diesel will now retail at US$1.77 per litre while petrol blend will cost US$1.71 per litre. In local currency, diesel has been set at ZWG 45.55 per litre and petrol blend at ZWG 44.01 per litre.
Last month, diesel was retailing at US$1.52 per litre while petrol blend was at US$1.56 per litre.
ZERA said the prices take immediate effect from the 4th of March and will remain in place for the next two weeks while the authority continues to monitor developments on the international market.
The regulator noted that the government reduced some of its charges to protect consumers from sharp increases fuel prices.
“Without Government cushioning, the actual prices would have been US$1.90 per litre for diesel and US$1.81 per litre for petrol blend,” the authority said in a statement.
ZERA urged stakeholders and members of the public to verify petroleum price updates through its official communication platforms.
