MASVINGO CITY-In a major set back to the construction of the much awaited Chimusana Bridge, armed robbers got away with 140 blue pipes at Masimba Construction site on Sunday night.
The pipes were part of the consignment for the construction of Chimusana Bridge meant to ease congestion in Masvingo City and the widening of the Harare Masvingo Highway underway.
The value and size of the pipes had been ascertained by the time of posting the story.
Masvingo Province public relations officer, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa’s mobile number was not reachable today as he was said to be out of office.
The Midweek Watch is in possession of an SMS from the CID to one of the business groups in the ancient city which reads, “We had an Armed Robbery at Masimba Company. Pachimusana two days ago. The circumstances are raising eyebrows.
10 accused persons arrived driving a 30 tonne truck. They tied guards for the two sites and loaded 140 blue pipes in the truck and went away leaving the guards tied.
The robbery was said to have been committed over 3 hours ???????,”.
