KWEKWE-Daring six armed robbers pounced on a Kwekwe grocery shop, making off with more than US$4,000 in cash and other valuable items, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said on Saturday.
The ZRP said a manhunt has since been launched for the suspects, who reportedly fled the scene in an unregistered white Toyota Quantum minibus.
According to the Midlands provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the robbery occurred in the early hours of July 24 at Fantasy Tarism Private Limited, a retail shop in the industrial town of Kwekwe.
At around 1a.m, a group of three unidentified men scaled the perimeter wall and overpowered the on-duty security guard, Elvis Shoko.
“They pointed a pistol at the guard, ordered him to lie down and tied his hands,” Mahoko said in a statement.
Moments later, three more accomplices arrived at the premises through an unlocked gate, driving a white Toyota Quantum without registration plates.
The gang used a bolt cutter to break into the main shop, stealing US$4,373 in cash along with groceries and electronic gadgets.
Police have appealed to members of the public with any information leading to the arrest of the six suspects to come forward.
“The suspects are still at large, and we urge anyone with information to report to the nearest police station,” Mahoko added.
