Preparations for the grand birthday celebrations of one of Zimbabwe’s most influential apostolic leaders, Madzibaba Moses Gwasarira, affectionately known as Madzibaba Mozi Gwanzura, are now at an advanced stage — with thousands of congregants expected to converge at the iconic Zimbabwe Grounds in Highfield on 6 December.

The event, already being described by organisers as one of the most significant gatherings on the apostolic calendar, will honour a man whose leadership has reshaped the spiritual and social landscape of the Johanne Masowe eChishanu Sect.
Regarded as a towering apostolic giant, Madzibaba Mozi has earned nationwide respect for his visionary role in modernising the sect, unifying diverse apostolic groups and instilling values of ubuntu, discipline and community development. His influence has helped transform the apostolic movement from a misunderstood fringe grouping into a confident, organised and progressive religious force.
Under his stewardship, many congregants have been uplifted socio-economically, embracing entrepreneurship and national development programmes. The modern, empowered apostolic believer — seen driving top-of-the-range vehicles and contributing visibly to society — is a reflection of the bold new identity shaped by Madzibaba Mozi.
Madzibaba Reginai (Chiteme) of the Rhodene congregation, who also serves as Masvingo Provincial Chairperson, paid heartfelt tribute to the celebrated figure.
“Madzibaba Moses has been very instrumental. I personally feel indebted to this man, and his birthday is worth celebrating at the highest level. I have committed resources to ensure our senior religious leaders attend this august gathering,” he said.
The rise of Madzibaba Mozi has also coincided with the prominence of Wicknell Chivayo, another congregant whose national influence has brought further spotlight to the apostolic community.
This year’s celebrations at Zimbabwe Grounds will draw prominent figures from across the country, including the ever-popular Madzibaba Owen ‘Chikopokopo’, among other senior clergy.
Organisers have announced a distinctive dress code — school uniforms — symbolising humility, discipline and the commitment to lifelong learning, principles that lie at the heart of Madzibaba Mozi’s leadership.
Madzibaba Flotcher of the Ngezi sect, co-spokesperson for the event, described the upcoming celebration as extraordinary.
“This is a must-attend event for all. This is an early Christmas treat,” he said.
As the countdown to 6 December at Zimbabwe Grounds intensifies, emotions are high and excitement is building among the faithful, who are preparing to honour a leader they view as a unifier, reformer, and spiritual luminary — a man whose influence continues to shape both the church and the nation at large.
