Celebrated ZRP Masvingo District Criminal Investigations Department officer in charge, Detective Chief Inspector, Hazvinei Jindu has left the ancient city after a two year tour of duty.

Jindu is famous for her staunch and passionate fight against drugs and substance abuse, especially among the youth and students.

Jindu will now be the new officer in Charge at Chivhu police camp and leaves behind a memorable history of bursting some of the most complicated criminal syndicates to have operated in Masvingo and the country at large.

Some of her success stories during her tour of duty include the arrest of Goerge Ramabique and his gang of 15 armed members.

The gang had been infamous for terrorizing travelers along the Masvingo-Harare highway, stripping victims naked before robbing them and since the arrest of the gang it marked a huge decline in robberies along the rehabilitated road.

The decorated officer is also the brains behind an operation that saw the arrest of Tafadzwa Kanengoni aka Soda Water who shot and killed a tuck-shop owner in the high density suburb of Mucheke.

With a career spanning 25 years in the police service Jindu rescued in a movie style way a kidnapped 7 year old child who had been taken hostage in Bikita while the kidnappers were demanding US$5 000.

The list of her outstanding works is endless and as a female officer she is so passionate about fighting drug and substance abuse in communities and she had become a permanent guest at drugs awareness campaigns in schools, colleges and state gatherings in the province.

“I feel like sobbing when I think of the students at tertiary institutions, schools, churches and families at large.

“The issue of abstinence from drugs and substance abuse remains a thorn in my flesh. This pandemic needs concerted effort. Unfortunately the transfer is outside my purview,” said Jindu at a farewell party hosted for her by Nyaradzo Group at their offices in Masvingo City.

Prior to coming to Masvingo, Jindu worked as officer in charge CID Murewa, Marondera and officer in charge minerals and fauna in Mutare.

In an emotional farewell party organized by the Business against crime forum held over the weekend Detective Jindu shade tears as she chronicled her policing journey and cardinal relations she had created in Masvingo.

“Your friendship and encouragement made a significant impact on my personal and professional growth.

“I could embrace the team dynamics we enjoyed together.

“Had it not been because of the submission by the staff members I had, CID Masvingo could not have scooped the Station of the Year award 2023 southern region and the best station in the country when I was stationed at Murewa. It was awesome being here.

“Regardless of different backgrounds, cultures, drinking habits, age, beliefs and attributes, however we went along well through and through. Gender segregation was never an issue amongst the entire team,” she said.

During her tour of duty at Murewa station as officer in charge, Jindu single handedly masterminded the recovery of the late Tapiwa Makore’s body parts using her personal vehicle in arresting the perpetrators of the heinous crime that shook the whole country.

She paid tribute to the business against crime forum for assisting the CID Masvingo department with resources in fighting crime and urged members to put them to good use and maintain the cordial relations that are existing.
