Shurugwi – All roads will lead to the much anticipated Tongogara RDC Chairman’s marathon that will see athletes from across the divide competing in different races.

Tongogara Rural District Council Chairman, Cllr Wilbert Rambanepasi.

The race will run under the theme “Embrace wellness, embrace life” and preparations are in full gear.

The event is unique and very contemporary meant to address issues of drug abuse, high rate of crime among the youths.

Chairman of Tongogara RDC Cllr Wilbert Rambanapasi told The Midweek Watch that he was greatly pleased by the meeting where athletes would show case their talents in 5km, 10km, 21km and 42km races. He said the objective is to take the council to the people, engage with them and understand their concerns, as well as for them to understand the council’s expectations.

The race will take place on the 7th of June 2025 at Donga Business Centre.

“I am grateful to council and humbled by this event where athletes will battle it out for prizes from our partners such as ZB Bank, Econet Zimbabwe, POSB, Byword Motors, SHAB, RAMS Security, Colour Champions, Gweru Toyota and Ministry of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture.

“We are sending a strong message to Tongogara Rural Council residents and Zimbabwe as a whole on the importance of wellness. There is no better medication other than exercising” he said.

Silver Bhebhe one of the organisers of this prestigious annual marathon race said he was short of words in thanking the Tongogara RDC for this carnival.

“This council bears a name of one of the finest national liberation heroes of our nation and taking part in these activities is re-living the late Josiah Magama Tongogara’s vision of staying fit.

“This marathon race comes at a time when it is important to demystify Tongogara Business Centre which was formerly known as Chirashavana (a place associated with dumping of children) prior to its renaming in honour of the late liberation hero, Josiah Magama Tongogara.

“We expect athletes from all walks of life and everyone so willing to be part of this extravaganza.” said Bhebhe.

NAAZ first Vice president Walter Siyai Zimusi hailed the organisers of the marathon race.

“This is good for sports and development of athletes. As an association we have every reason to thank Tongogara RDC and continue to urge other stakeholders out there to support different races in across the country,” said Zimusi.
