BIKITA-A 31-year-old man from Buhera died after gulping an unknown liquid substance at his in laws’ residence in Village 7B under Chief Budzi in Bikita on the 27th of February at around 1800 hours following a marital dispute with his wife.
The now deceased, identified as Courage Zvoumba of Chief Nyashanu, Buhera had reportedly visited his in-laws in Bikita to resolve a domestic dispute with his wife.
According to the police, a misunderstanding arose during the discussions with the wife allegedly informing her parents that she was no longer interested in continuing the marriage, accusing Courage of being violent and abusive.
It is reported that following the exchange, Courage took out a 500ml bottle from his pocket containing an unknown liquid substance and drank it.
Shortly afterwards, he allegedly fell to the ground and began vomiting. His wife and in-laws attempted to render first aid but he died at the scene.
The body was taken to Silveira Mission Hospital and is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Confirming the case, ZRP Masvingo Deputy Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu urged members of the public to seek peaceful means of resolving disputes.
“We urge members of the public to engage community leaders, elders or relevant authorities when facing domestic challenges. Taking drastic action only leads to loss of life and leaves families devastated,” he said.
