Gweru-Thousands of Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) supporters thronged Mkoba Stadium for the party’s campaign launch ahead of August 23 harmonized elections.

Addressing party faithfuls, a buoyant CCC leader Nelson Chamisa vowed to turn around the struggling economy  in record time and uproot all forms of corruption, adding that the country resources should benefit all citizens.

Chamisa bemoaned lack of development in the country, saying his party has plans to end poverty and unemployment.

“Forty-three years after independence there is poverty with five million Zimbabweans living in diaspora. There are no roads and our heath is collapsing. Resources and land should be for everyone,” said Chamisa.

The 45 year old leader also lamented the banning of his campaigns, saying “no one can stop an idea whose time has come. They cannot ban us from people’s hearts,” he said amid thunderous applause from his supporters who turned out in numbers despite a chilly weather.

The opposition leader added that his party would not allow electoral malpractice.

“We will not accept a rigged election this time,” he said.

Chamisa said he plans to take his campaign to the rural areas and Zanu PF strongholds.

The youthful opposition leader will face other ten presidential hopefuls including President Mnangagwa, who has led the ruling Zanu PF since the 2017 peaceful putsch.

In 2018 President Mnangagwa beat Chamisa by a wafer thin margin of 30 000 votes.
