MWENEZI-Masogwe Primary School has once again underlined its growing reputation as one of Zimbabwe’s emerging centres of sporting excellence after clinching the 2026 National Association of Primary School Heads (NAPH) Masvingo Provincial Volleyball Championship.
The Mwenezi North Constituency-based school produced a series of commanding performances to be crowned provincial champions, earning the right to represent Masvingo Province at the National Games in Mutare, which begin on Monday.
The latest triumph marks an extraordinary fourth consecutive provincial title for Masogwe, a remarkable achievement that continues to challenge the long-held dominance of urban schools in primary school volleyball.
Guided by head coach Wellington Chigaba and assistant coach Nicholas Matara, the youthful side has demonstrated exceptional discipline, determination and teamwork to remain the team to beat in the province.
Behind the team’s sustained success is the unwavering support of school head Emmaculate Chuma, whose leadership has helped create an environment where both academic and sporting excellence continue to flourish.
Teacher Norman Mkondo paid tribute to the school head’s contribution.
“Mrs Emmaculate Chuma is in a class of her own. She has been unwavering in supporting our efforts as a school and has played an instrumental role in our success,” he said.
Despite fielding one of the youngest squads in the competition, Masogwe has continued to punch above its weight. The championship-winning team features Charles Gonyami, Forgive Gwatipedza, Vincent Mhango, Anesu Mupaneshure, Mufaro Honey and Wellington Mangure, whose impressive performances have powered the school’s remarkable run.
Their success has also drawn praise from the Member of Parliament for Mwenezi North Constituency, Master Pikilo Makope, who congratulated the team on its outstanding achievement.
“I am delighted that a school from my constituency continues to excel on the national stage. I wish the team every success at the National Games in Mutare. They are carrying the hopes and pride of the constituency, the district and the entire province. We are confident they will make us proud,” said MP Makope.
As the national championships beckon, Masogwe Primary School will travel to Mutare not merely as provincial champions, but as standard-bearers for rural sporting excellence and living proof that talent, commitment and visionary leadership can overcome geographical barriers.
