MARANGE – A businessman from Marange and his family are recovering from a terrifying armed robbery after a gang of seven gun-wielding men stormed their home in Chipfatsura Village on Saturday, 27 June 2026 making off with cash and property worth US$3 000.

The robbers targeted the home of Shepherd Matongo, where they violently attacked him and his wife, Charity Matongo, while demanding US$10 000 they believed was hidden inside the house.
Charity Matongo said the family did not have the US$10 000 the robbers were demanding and handed over the money that was available in the house. Despite this, the gang continued assaulting the couple, insisting they reveal where the alleged cash was hidden.
The traumatized family sustained serious injuries during the ordeal and lost cash together with various household valuables before the suspects fled into the night. Police have since launched investigations to track down the suspects.
Acting Manicaland province police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the incident and urged business people to avoid keeping large sums of money at home and to improve security at their homes by installing proper lighting, secure doors and to remain vigilant by reporting suspicious people or activities to the police without delay.
He appealed to anyone with information that could assist in the arrest of the suspects to report to their nearest police station, saying community cooperation is essential in the fighting crime.
