MUTARE– A tragic discovery shocked the Sakubva community early this morning when the body of an unidentified homeless woman believed to have been mentally ill was found outside Sakubva Stadium.
According to local authorities and residents the deceased was a familiar face in the area. Although she struggled with severe mental health issues those who encountered her regularly described her as entirely peaceful and non-violent.
The grim discovery follows reports of a disturbances in the area late last night. Wilson Muponda, a security guard stationed at the nearby Sakubva shops recalled hearing a sudden piercing scream in the darkness. However due to security concerns in the volatile neighborhood, he was unable to safely investigate the source of the noise immediately. He alerted the authorities as soon as possible later noting that while residents are unsure of what exactly transpired the police are currently stating that preliminary observations show no signs of foul play.
The news has brought deep sadness to Sakubva residents who had grown accustomed to her presence. Mai Mbasera, a local resident who regularly frequents the Sakubva market, expressed her grief over the incident, noting that the deceased had been living on the streets near the market for a considerable time. She remembered her as a peaceful soul who never bothered anyone despite her mental condition, making the sudden death all the more heartbreaking for the community.
The police have since launched an official investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death to establish exactly what happened. Because the deceased carried no identification and lived a transient lifestyle, authorities are urgently appealing to members of the public. Anyone who may have a missing relative fitting this description or who can help positively identify the woman, is requested to come forward and contact the nearest police station.
