MASVINGO-Vendors operating outside the N. Richards outlet at Masvingo Old Croco Motors were recently evicted as the wholesaler has started renovation of the store.

The section, which had also served as a loading point for Mashava, Zvishavane and Gweru commuters has been closed to accommodate the ongoing construction project.

Vendors who traded their wares outside the shop said they were notified by N. Richards management to vacate the premises before the renovations began.

According to the vendors, the closure has disrupted their businesses, forcing them to seek alternative locations from which to sell their goods.

“We were informed that the area was being closed because the shop is being expanded, so we had to move,” said one vendor who requested anonymity.

The vendors further stated that those who attempt to continue trading within the premises are being removed by security personnel enforcing restrictions around the construction site.

While some vendors have relocated to nearby areas, others say they remain uncertain about where they can operate from without risking conflict with authorities enforcing municipal by-laws.

The expansion of the retail outlet is expected to enhance services and increase business space.
